Flinkenberg, a well-established Finnish family business with over a century of experience, partners with FoodFarm to supply hempseed oil to the chemical industry. The company operates across multiple sectors, including chemicals, steel, and renewable energy, positioning it as a uniquely multifaceted player in the Finnish industrial landscape.

Flinkenberg’s operations are divided into three core divisions. The Chemicals department specializes in providing high-quality specialty chemicals to clients both in Finland and abroad. The Steel unit serves the metal industry, while the Energy Solutions division focuses on importing and distributing high-quality energy technologies, including solar power systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, and smart lighting controls.

In partnership with FoodFarm, Flinkenberg supplies hempseed oil products to companies in the cosmetics sector. A notable example is the Finnish company Berner, which utilizes FoodFarm’s hempseed oil—delivered by Flinkenberg—to produce clean, natural cosmetic products.

Cosmetics is the Leading Segment in Flinkenberg’s Chemicals Division

Among the broad array of product categories offered by the Chemicals division, the cosmetics industry has emerged as its largest customer segment. Flinkenberg supplies cosmetic raw materials throughout the Nordic and Baltic regions, catering to a wide variety of manufacturers.

The range for cosmetics is exceptionally diverse, including ingredients for everything from personal cleansers and skincare creams to hair products and fragrances. Flinkenberg’s partner brands offer thousands of ingredients, with hundreds of them being cosmetic oils.

In recent years, FoodFarm’s domestically produced hempseed oil has become an increasingly important component of Flinkenberg’s product line. It is now widely utilized in a variety of cosmetic products. Hempseed oil is particularly valued for its effectiveness in treating sensitive, dry, or atopic skin; however, it is also effective in formulations designed for oily or blemish-prone skin, as well as in hair care products.

Hempseed Oil: A Finnish Example of Sustainable Beauty

Flinkenberg’s growing interest in hempseed oil is driven by its well-documented skincare benefits and versatility.

“Hemp isn’t limited to a single skin type; it is effective for both men and women,” says Simon Riihelä of Flinkenberg. “Its popularity is growing fast, but there is still a need to educate some cosmetics clients about its full potential and how to use it effectively.”

The benefits of hempseed oil extend beyond cosmetics. Oilseed hemp is a climate-resilient crop that naturally aligns with sustainable farming practices. It efficiently absorbs carbon dioxide, requires no pesticides, improves soil health, and thrives in Finland’s climate.

Rising Demand for Organic, Locally Produced Hempseed Oil

Consumer demand for organic hempseed oil has surged in recent years. Natural, responsibly produced ingredients—especially those sourced locally—are attracting increasing attention from both end users and product manufacturers in the cosmetics industry.

“Organic quality is regarded as a significant value addition in both the food and beauty sectors,” Riihelä explains. “The number of environmentally conscious consumers is steadily increasing. More and more people want to care for their own skin and hair, as well as that of their loved ones, using products that are made in a natural and sustainable way.”

Cosmetics manufacturers in Finland and internationally are increasingly prioritizing responsibly sourced, domestic, and Nordic raw materials. Principles of the circular economy, plant-based ingredients, and zero-waste production methods have become central values in the industry.

“In this regard, FoodFarm’s products are an excellent fit, as every part of the hempseed is put to good use,” Riihelä summarizes.
