Fans of Finnish oilseed hemp products have reason to celebrate: hemp is being cultivated this year more than ever before!

Last spring, our parent company, Trans Farm Oy, which oversees the contract farming of oilseed hemp, established contracts with 120 farmers. This achievement set new records for both the number of participating farmers and the area dedicated to oilseed hemp cultivation. The autumn yield significantly exceeded the results of previous years.

This year, both the number of hemp farmers and the area of land being cultivated have again significantly increased. Hemp is cultivated using both conventional and organic farming systems, and the farmers are well-versed in sustainable cultivation practices.

Oilseed hemp is typically sown in fields during May; however, this year’s early spring allowed for planting to commence as early as April. Reportedly, the first hemp field of the year was sown on April 19 in Satakunta, Finland.

Contract farming ensures high quality and sustainable practices

Trans Farm, which coordinates the cultivation of oilseed hemp, establishes farming contracts with Finnish farmers: the farmers grow the hemp, and Trans Farm purchases it for further processing. At FoodFarm, we process the hemp into various products, including seeds, hemp protein, and hemp oils.

Contract farming ensures the traceability and quality of oilseed hemp from field to table, with no interruptions in our quality control process. Perhaps even more importantly, contract farmers have easy access to the most effective and environmentally sustainable farming practices. Trans Farm maintains close communication with the farmers and organizes training sessions to help them identify the best cultivation techniques.
